Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Short version: You can use helpp anonymously for a small number of questions, with only an anonymous session counter held in your browser. If you choose to create an account, we store your email address (to identify your account, send password-reset and verification emails, and notify you of unusual sign-in activity), a one-way hash of your password, and your question and upload counts. We use no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics — just privacy-friendly, self-hosted Umami on the helpp.site landing page for aggregate visit counts.

1. Who we are

helpp.site is a specialist AI assistant service. For privacy enquiries, contact us at hello@helpp.site.

2. What data we collect

Browser storage (local to your device)

We store small items in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

Key What it stores Why
q_count / cw_q_count Anonymous question counter (a number) To enforce the free question limit
session_id / cw_session_id Random UUID, generated locally To maintain conversation context within a session
helpp_vip Flag ("1") if you have been granted extended access To bypass the question limit for nominated users
helpp_consent Flag ("1") when you dismiss the storage notice To avoid showing the notice again
pocketbase_auth Authentication token, set only after you sign in to an account To keep you signed in across page reloads (cleared on sign-out)

The anonymous values above do not identify you as an individual. The authentication token (when present) corresponds to your signed-in account, which is associated with the email address you provided at sign-up.

Server access logs

Our web server (hosted in the EU) records standard nginx access logs. These logs contain:

These logs are used solely for security monitoring and are retained for a maximum of 30 days before deletion. They are not shared with third parties.

Questions you ask

The text of questions you submit, and any document you upload, is sent to our server and processed using a combination of AI and infrastructure services. Depending on the feature you use, your input may be handled by one or more of the providers listed in Section 4. Each provider's own data retention policies apply — see their respective privacy policies for details.

Question and answer logging

Each question you ask, together with the answer the system generates, is recorded anonymously in a server-side log file. This log is used solely to audit answer quality, identify gaps in source coverage, and improve the system over time.

The log record contains: the question text, the answer text, the sources retrieved, the AI model used, the timestamp, and an anonymous session ID (a random identifier generated in your browser — see table above). It does not contain your IP address, name, email, or any other information that could identify you as an individual.

Log files are stored on our EU server, are not shared with third parties, and are reviewed only by the service operator for quality improvement purposes.

3. Cookies

We do not place any cookies on your device. The items described above use browser local storage, which is functionally similar but distinct from cookies and is used solely to support the service's core functionality.

4. Third-party services

We use AI language models, vector search, and supporting infrastructure from the following providers. Depending on the function called, your question or uploaded document text may be processed by one or more of these services. We do not sell or share data with any other third party.

We do not use any advertising networks, social media trackers, or third-party analytics platforms.

5. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the UK or EU, you have the following rights:

6. Children

This service does not have an age verification process. The subject matter is technical and specialist in nature, and the system is constrained to answer questions only within its defined scope. We do not collect any information relating to the age of users.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We recommend checking back occasionally.
